Saul Melman
Visiting Artist Lecture Series

Saul Melman, "Central Govenor", 2010. Gold leaf, salt, saliva

Saul Melman is a multidisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, New York. His work takes form in sculpture, installation, photography and printmaking, all executed through the lens of performance. Melman was highlighted in The Believer magazine in which his work was described as creating a “kind of productive mental disorder.” Parallel to his practice as an artist, Melman works as an Emergency Room physician where the charged interactions he experiences inform his exploration of aesthetic dialogue. He has exhibited throughout the United States in galleries and museums, including the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Socrates Sculpture Park and a long-term installation at MoMA PS1.

Melman’s awards and residencies include Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) Process Space Residency, NY (2014), Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency, CA (2104), Dieu Donné Workspace Program, NY (2013); BoxoHouse Residency, Joshua Tree, CA (2012/2013); Socrates Sculpture Park Emerging Artist Fellowship, NY (2011), Culture Push Genesis Project Residency, PA (2008); and Burning Man Project, Artist Grant, CA (2003/2004).
