May Wilson Wins SF Art Dealers Award
May Wilson (MFA, art, ’13) has won the 2017 San Francisco Artist Award from The San Francisco Art Dealers Association (SFADA). As winner, she will have a solo exhibition at the Themes + Projects gallery, Minnesota Street Project, 1275 Minnesota St., September 9 – 30.
Wilson creates sculptures and installations with industrial materials – vinyl, industrial felt, nylon strapping, sand and concrete. She describes her process as an investigation and abstraction of material that explores her interest in construction and the strength of industrial materials.
Around 30 artists were nominated for the biennial award by art professionals, collectors and other artists.
After completing her studies at UC Davis, Wilson received a residency fellowship at Headlands Center for the Arts and was a finalist for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art. She has recently been in group exhibitions at Shulamit Nazarian gallery in Los Angeles, Southern Exposure and Bass and Reiner galleries in San Francisco, Aggregate Space in Oakland and the di Rosa Foundation in Napa.
