Alum Jessica Eve Rattner in Headlands’ Graduate Fellows Exhibition
Organized by curator PJ Gubatina Policarpio, and featuring work by Headlands’ 2020-21 Graduate Fellows, “Tarsal by Metatarsal” explores varied engagements with the body in its expansive and multivalent manifestations as archive and ecosystem, instrument and metaphor, specter and source. The seven 2020-2021 Graduate Fellows – Calum Craik (San Francisco State University), Jillian Crochet (California College of the Arts), Xandra Ibarra (UC Berkeley), Yétundé Olagbaju (Mills College), Stuart Robertson (Stanford University), Lena Tseabbe Wright (San Francisco Art Institute), and alum Jessica Eve Rattner (UC Davis, MFA ‘20) – were tasked with creating work under the extraordinary weight of the pandemic and social conlfict around ableism, capitalism, colonialism, patriarchy, and white supremacy. The participating fellows utilize a spectrum of strategies and tactics to assemble a body of work that is simultaneously an encounter of the present and an index of what the body remembers, endures, and survives.
