Our second-year MFA exhibition takes place May 31 to June 21 in the Nelson Gallery.

Congratulations to our MFA candidates Brett Davis, Jamie Dunn, Daniel Harano, Rachel Gelenius, Jacob Greenlund, Jeff King, Alyssa Lempsis, and Joyce Nojima!

We hope to see you at the opening reception and performances June 6th from 5:30-7:30 pm at the Nelson Gallery.

Join us for a conversation with curator Hesse McGraw and the MFA candidates on June 5th at 4 pm in the Nelson Gallery as they discuss their thesis exhibition and artwork.

Brett Douglas Davis earned his BFA in painting from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 2005. He has lived in Lublin, Poland, as well as Berlin. Brett’s work remains centered around painting and the notion of the absurd.

Jamie Dunn

Jamie Dunn is an artist from Virginia working through performance, drawing, and writing. She graduated with a BFA in Sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2009. Jamie pursues questions and desires through action to investigate existence and the self with attention to the connection between body and mind. Her work follows urgency, struggle and an open need to communicate this examination of self with others.

Rachel graduated with a BA in Art History from Denison University in 2008 and a post-baccalaureate certificate in studio art from Brandeis University in 2012. Her sculptural work revolves around her interest in beauty and the grotesque.

Alyssa Lempesis

Alyssa Lempesis received her B.A. in Art Practice from the University of California, Berkeley in 2012. She is interested in making objects that reflect on the visibility of emotional and physical conditions. Her work explores the comfort and unease found in both support and repair through the creation of abstract forms, surrogates, and doubles.

Joyce Nojima

Joyce Nojima is a second-generation Japanese American born and raised in Santa Rosa, California. She finds herself drawn to repetitive mark-making in search of a visual experience and self-identity. She was awarded a Graduate Fellowship at the Headlands Center for the Arts for 2014-2015.
