Rachel Deane Wins Purchase Award
Rachel Deane is winner of the 2019 Keister and Allen Art Purchase Prize for a Master of Fine Arts student in studio art. One of her works will be purchased for the UC Davis Fine Arts Collection.
The award was presented May 30 at the annual graduate student exhibition, on display at the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art through June 16.
Deane writes modern-day folklore that examines dating culture, female sexuality and trauma, which she uses as source material for creating installations of intricate pattern, repetitive shape, bold color and ornamentation.
A native of Atlanta, Deane holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and a master’s degree in art and design education from the Rhode Island School of Design. See her work.
The award, established in 2017, is made possible by Shaun Keister, vice chancellor of the UC Davis Office of Development and Alumni Relations, and Walter Allen, interim support services supervisor, IT Express, UC Davis.
