Nita Little Nelson
Ph.D., Performance Studies, 2014

Nita Little Nelson is a founding developer of Contact Improvisation, and a dance artist investigating modalities of the embodied mind in composition and performance.

Following early training as a dancer with some of the finest US-based dance teachers including José Limón, Judith Dunn, Alfredo Corvino and Takako Asakawa, not to mention Steve Paxton, Nita received a PHD in Performance Studies from UC Davis specializing in the articulation of presence and creative actions of embodied attention. Having written dozens of course curriculum that she teaches throughout the world, Nita is also commonly a lecturer, contributor, and writer for publications. A dance researcher, she has also founded the Institute for the Study of Somatic Communication, which has cohorts across the globe. She is available for master classes, lectures, interviews, and coaching.
