Hunter Kiley
M.A. Art History
Hunter Kiley graduated from California State University, Sacramento where she was awarded the Jose and Juanita Montoya Memorial Scholarship in 2020 and recognized for academic excellence as the CSUS Art Department Student of Honor in 2021. At CSUS, Hunter worked as a UMKC-certified Supplemental Instructor for a survey art history course and as the Lead Student Coordinator of the SI program at large. During her time here at UC Davis, Hunter has worked as a research and material consultant for UC Davis history professor Dr. Kathy Stuart’s upcoming book and is interning for the Global Tea Initiative as well as serving as the Shields Library Art Specialist. In her graduate research, Hunter is interested in works that transcend tradition, convention, and expectation in innovative ways. Her M.A. thesis will examine James McNeill Whistler’s “The Gold Scab” as an anti-portrait that challenges the boundary of the genre to provide a nuanced account of Whistler’s most controversial work.
