Zhang Wenjun on “The Mud Children of Song Dynasty Jiangnan”
Visiting scholar Zhang Wenjun, Associate Professor in Humanities College, Nanjing University of the Arts (Jiangsu, China), will discuss her current research on Chinese ceramic “mud babies” in Song Culture. Children signify happiness and hope. In Chinese folk traditions, ceramic sculptures of children have long been popular. Examination of the renowned “mud children” from Song Dynasty Jiangnan reveal important aspects of society of the time.
