Dr. Alexandra Sofroniew received her Ph.D. from Brasenose College, University of Oxford, and is currently a Lecturer in Classical Archaeology at St. John’s College, Oxford. Her research focuses on the history and material culture of pre-Roman Italy and Sicily. More broadly, Dr. Sofroniew studies Roman religious practices with an emphasis on domestic religion. Her book, Household Gods and Private Devotion in Ancient Greece and Rome, will be published by the J. Paul Getty Museum Press. She is also active as a museum curator and has curated several exhibitions on the art of southern Italy and Sicily, including Sicily and the Sea.
