Print by alum Darcy Padilla acquired by Chazen Museum
The Chazen Museum of Art at the University of Wisconsin–Madison recently added a print by alum Darcy Padilla (MFA ‘18) to its collection. Padilla has been an associate professor in the Art Department at UW-Madison since 2018.
The Chazen Museum acquired “Ambassador Hotel, San Francisco, California” for its collection. This piece is from a body of work that Padilla created in the 1990s addressing urban poverty. The series of images from which this photograph is drawn was shot in single-room occupancy hotels in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District. A number of examples, including “Ambassador Hotel,” were on view in the Chazen’s Faculty Exhibition 2020.
The Chazen Museum of Art houses 23,000 works that have been acquired by the UW–Madison since 1885.
