Open Inquiry: UC Arts
A new generation of UC artists in groups show

Open Inquiry: UC Arts brings together emerging artists from the University of California’s leading art programs at UCLA, UC Berkeley, and UC Davis for a group show at the Sausalito Center for the Arts. Featuring current students and graduates from the past two decades, the exhibition highlights innovative, research-driven practices across painting, sculpture, installation, performance, and digital media.

Grounded in the idea that research is not limited to laboratories or archives, Open Inquiry frames artistic practice as a vital mode of inquiry. Through multi-disciplined, critically engaged studio practices, the exhibiting artists question, test, analyze, and interpret—performing acts of research with their making processes. The art studio becomes a site for creative problem-solving, where painting, sculpture, installation, performance, and digital media operate as tools of critical inquiry.

Featured alum from UC Davis include Nicole Irene Anderson (MFA 2025), Jose Arenas (MFA 2000), Phillip Byrne (MFA 2022), April Camlin (MFA 2024), Zach Clark (MFA 2016), Jodi Connelly (MFA 2017), Cella Costanza (MFA 2025), Julia Haft-Candell (MA 2005), Rachel Deane (MFA 2019), Mercy Hawkins (MFA 2021), Gracianne Kirsch (MFA 2024), Will Maxen (MFA 2023), Kelly O’Leary (MFA 2022), Darcy Padilla (MFA 2019), Sofia del Pedregal Moscatelli (MFA 2022), Helia Pouyanfar (MFA 2022), Luka Vergoz (MFA 2023) and Marina Darcy Weiner (BA 2015).
