Alum Jared Theis (MFA 2012) has been awarded a Joan Mitchell Center Artist-in-Residence. Theis will spend Fall 2019 at the New Orleans based foundation, working along side Professor Lucy Puls who also was awarded a Fall 2019 residency!

This is not his first Joan Mitchell Foundation award: as a graduate student, Theis received a Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA Grant.  In 2017 he was awarded a three-month residency at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, Germany, through Blue Star Contemporary, San Antonio, TX. He has recently exhibited his work at Kunsthall Stavanger, Stavanger, Norway; Mass Gallery, Austin, TX; and the Oslo Prosjektrom, Norway. He also has upcoming residencies in 2019 at KHIO, Oslo National Academy of the Arts, Norway and Houston Center for Contemporary Craft.
