Chris Daubert at artspace1616

Art by alum Chris Daubert (MFA 1988) is currently featured in “Is the transformation complete?,” an exhibition at artspace 1616. The show runs through April 29th at the Sacramento gallery located at 1616 Del Paso Blvd.

“I am trying to figure out the nature of territorial conflict,” said Daubert. ”As part of my research, I analyze maps of countries to see if there was any information to be found in the ever-changing flow of these artificial borders that bend and wrap themselves around the surface of the earth. I created a database that includes outlines of every current country, which is difficult because somewhere in the world, borders shift, countries expand and contract, and even disappear, on an almost weekly basis.”

Chris Daubert is an artist, writer and curator who lives in California’s central Valley. He has exhibited his drawings, paintings and large multi- media installations locally and nationally for many years. His work has been shown at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and New Langton Arts in San Francisco, The Drawing Center in New York, The Crocker Museum and b. sakata garo in Sacramento, and numerous other locations. Born in Oakland he was one of the artist founders of the non profit gallery ProArts. Since moving to the Sacramento area, he has served as a curator of the Richard L.Nelson Gallery at the University of California Davis, and the Gregory Kondos at Sacramento City College. He also served as chair of the Exhibition Committee of the center for Contemporary Art, Sacramento. He taught in the Art Department at Sacramento City College where he was professor of Painting and New media from 2001 to 2017.
