Alum explores the intersection of photography and science
In a recent interview with Kathleen Wong of the UC Natural Reserve System, alum Jordan Benton (M.F.A., ‘23) discusses the intersection of art and science in his new photographic work. The Natural Reserve System is a central topic in Benton’s work and was featured in his COLLECTORS series which was on display at the 2023 Arts & Humanities Graduate Exhibition in June.
Benton has exhibited two shows exploring the UC Natural Reserve System. “Coast in Color: Imaging Northern California Coastal Dynamics” is a collaboration with William Speiser, PhD candidate in Hydrologic Sciences at UC Davis, and looks at scientific images of coastal areas on and around Bodega Marine Reserve. Benton and Speiser received a Russell J. and Dorothy S. Bilinski Fellowship for their project at the Bodega Marine Reserve. “Who’s To Say” was exhibited at the Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at UC Davis and featured his COLLECTORS series for which he received the Keister & Allen Art Purchase Prize.
