Professor Katharine Burnett is on a whirlwind tour of Taipei, Taiwan where she is presenting papers and lectures at several Taiwanese universities and colloquia.
On Dec. 11, Burnett gave a Distinguished Scholar Lecture at the National Taiwan University. Her presentation – “Inventing a New ‘Old Tradition’: Chinese Art at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition” — was attended by faculty and students from National Taiwan Normal University, Academia Sinica as well as the National Taiwan University, all located in Taipei, Taiwan.
A few days later on Dec. 13, Burnett presented her paper “On the Road: Wu Bin in Fujian” for the juried panel “Identity, Social-self, the Genuine and the Strange in Visual Representation” at the 2023 International Conference on Ming-Qing Studies at the Academia Sinica. She was fortunate to catch up with her graduate school advisor Marty Powers (Beijing University) who was a discussant for her panel.
