Call for papers: Inside & Out
3rd Annual Art History Graduate Colloquium
The Art History graduate students announce a call for Papers for the 3rd Annual Art History Graduate Colloquium.
This year’s colloquium is entitled ”Inside & Out” and explores Architectural Space and Construction of Self.
Architecture is a fundamental component in both the construction of physical environments and the shaping of individual subjectivities. From the more intimate scale of interior spaces to the broader context of urban landscapes, the built environment profoundly influences how we understand and navigate the world, as well as how we negotiate and articulate our identities. This colloquium invites graduate students to critically explore the relationship between architectural space and the formation of selfhood, considering how built environments might shape, reflect, and challenge individual and collective identities.
We welcome papers that explore a range of topics related to architectural forms, urban planning, and landscape design. We encourage submissions that engage with both the physical and conceptual boundaries of designed or constructed space as they are complexly intertwined with identity formation.
Please submit by March 9, 2025. Selected presenters will be notified by March 21. Presenters will be allocated up to 20 minutes each to share their work, followed by a brief Q&A session. We invite scholars from diverse fields to contribute their research and perspectives on the intersection of architectural space and identity!
