Isaac Pastor-Chermak is a recent graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he received a master’s degree in cello performance with honors. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Berkeley, and is continuing his education as a graduate student in orchestral conducting at UC Davis, where he studies under Christian Baldini.

Pastor-Chermak pursues an eclectic variety of musical endeavors, performing a repertoire spanning nearly 400 years on baroque cello, viola da gamba, modern cello, and a range of electric and ‘prepared’ instruments. He has studied cello under Linda and William Wharton, Irene Sharp and Jean-Michel Fonteneau, early music under Davitt Moroney and Elisabeth Reed, and conducting under Marika Kuzma.

Pastor-Chermak appears frequently as soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player and conductor throughout the United States. He is also active as a manger and promoter, having produced concerts for the American Musicological Society and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Pastor-Chermak holds teaching positions in the Berkeley Unified School District, where he coaches sectionals and chamber music at the middle- and high-school levels, and the Young Artists Conservatory of Music in Vacaville, where he teaches cello lessons. His students have taken top honors at regional chamber music adjudications.
