Undergraduate Tiara Abraham Begins Summer with Achievements

Undergraduate music major Tiara Abraham has earned two regional scholarships and been accepted to three summer programs at Oberlin, NYU, and Eastman.

Summer Programs

From June 21 to 27, Tiara will participate in the Baroque Performance Institute at Oberlin College and Conservatory, which will be followed by the NYU Steinhardt Classical Voice Intensive program, July 12–23. Also, through August, Tiara will participate in the Eastman School of Music’s French Lyric Diction program.

At NYU Steinhardt, she will be studying with Dianna Heldman, Rosa Vento, Scott Murphree, Harolyn Blackwell-Greer, Errik Hood, and others. While at Oberlin, Tiara will study with Daniel Taylor, Molly Netter, Penelope Jensen, among others. She will receive voice lessons from soprano Nancy Zylstra, who has performed with the American Bach Soloists, the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Tafelmusik, and the Portland Baroque Orchestra.

Scholarships

Tiara won first place in the 2021 Sacramento Master Singers Scholarship for Young Choral Singers (age 14–16). First place scholarship winners are invited to sing at the concert. Because of the pandemic, she performed along with first place winners from the other two age categories during a ceremony held online. The award, which is formerly known as the Asya Pleskach Scholarship, is designed to support and encourage choral singers ages 14–22 from the greater Sacramento area for their commitment to and leadership in the choral arts.

Tiara also won, for the second time, the 2021 Placer Pops Chorale Scholarship. The Chorale offers scholarships to young Sacramento area vocalists for the purpose of supporting music education among those already actively participating in local performing arts programs. Winners are invited to sing for the summer or winter concert at the Harris Center in Folsom, and the Dietrich Theater in Rocklin.

Upcoming Performance

In addition to the master classes she will participate during her summer programs, Tiara has been singing with The Washington Chorus, which is based in Washington, D.C. She appears in their June 11, 2021, program “Resilience” at 8:00 pm Eastern Time.

Tiara is studying with Jonathan Nadel at UC Davis and recently gave her Junior Recital in May 2021.
