2016-2017 Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture Series

The UC Davis Department of Art and Art History’s Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture series brings artists, writers and curators to campus. All presentations are free and take place at 4:30 p.m. With the exception of the Nov. 3 lecture all will take place at the new Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at UC Davis. The Nov. 3 lecture will be held in Room 107 of the Art Annex.

Chris McCaw
Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture Series

"Sunburned" GSP# 884 (Colorado river), 2015.3-12”x40” unique paper negatives

Chris McCaw was part of punk and skateboarding scene in Daly City, California, during the ’80s and ‘90s and brought the DIY ethos of that world to his photography. Over the ensuing decades McCaw has used photographic materials, especially expired gelatin silver paper, in groundbreaking ways.

Adrian Forty
Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture Series

Adrian Forty is a retired professor of Architectural History at University College London. He is author of Objects of Desire: Design and Society since 1750, Concrete and Culture: A Material History and Words and Buildings: A Vocabulary of Modern Architecture.

Briony Fer
Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture Series

Briony Fer is professor of art history at University College London. Her books include Gabriel Orozco: Thinking in Circles, Eva Hesse Studiowork, The Infinite Line: Re-making Art after Modernism, and On Abstract Art.

Dona Nelson
Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture Series

Painter Dona Nelson has had 12 solo exhibitions, including a 2000 survey show at the Weatherspoon Museum of Fine Art in Greensboro, North Carolina. She has also been featured in many group exhibitions throughout the country, including the 2013 Whitney Biennial, Her work is in the Metropolitan Museum of Fine Art and The Boston Museum of Fine Art collections.

Sharon M. Louden in conversation with Robin Hill and company
Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture Series

Sharon M. Louden is an artist, educator, advocate for artists, and editor of the Living and Sustaining a Creative Life series of books. Her most recent book, The Artist as Culture Producer, will be available in March 2017.

Diana Cooper
Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture Series

Diana Cooper’s art combines drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and installation. She has participated in group shows at the Whitney Museum of American Art; MOMA/PS 1; the Brooklyn Museum; the Sharjah Museum of Art (UAE); the He Xiangning Museum, Shenzhen, and the Drawing Room in London. In 2007 she had a 10-year survey exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cleveland.  Cooper is the recipient of the Rome Prize, a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, a Pollock-Krasner Grant and a Joan Mitchel Foundation Grant.

Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture Series

Sondra Perry is an interdisciplinary artist who works in video, installation, computer-based media and performance. She has been in exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art/PS1, New York, Seattle Art Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Studio Museum in Harlem and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
