Young Performers Sought for “Pippin”

The UC Davis College of Letters and Science’s Department of Theatre and Dance is holding auditions for the role of Theo in the award-winning musical comedy “Pippin” from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at the Main Theatre in Wright Hall

Girls and boys ages 8 to 12 will audition for Theo, the son of the widowed Catherine. They will be expected to perform a song they have prepared and are read scenes from the script. Accompaniment will be provided.

“Pippin” will be directed and choreographed by Broadway veteran Mindy Cooper with music direction by Graham Sobelman.

“This modern-day interpretation of ‘Pippin’ rethinks the story of one man’s journey,” said Cooper. “It asks the question: what if our only hope was a young man who, in his desire to find himself, needs to first cut the puppet strings that tie him to generations of corruption and man’s inhumanity to man? This ‘Pippin’ is set in today’s political environment of upheaval, its own special brand of a circus.”

The production runs Feb. 22-24 and March 1-3 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 24 and March 3 at 2 p.m. at UC Davis. Rehearsals will begin Thursday, Jan. 4 and will be take place in the evenings and on Saturdays.

To schedule an audition time, please contact the production stage manager Cameron Turner at camturner@ucdavis.edu.
