Congratulations to John Iacovelli, professor of theatre and dance at UC Davis, upon the announcement of his two LA STAGE Alliance Ovation Award nominations for outstanding scenic design.

He was nominated for his work in the large theatre scenic design category for his atmospheric 1920s’ recording studio setting for Los Angeles’ Center Theatre Group’s production of August Wilson’s powerful drama “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” The production was directed by Tony Award winner Phylicia Rashad and received multiple nominations.

Iacovelli was also nominated for outstanding scenic design in the intimate theatre category for his setting for the Sophina Brown production of August Wilson’s King Hedley II.”

The LA STAGE Ovation Awards are the only peer-judged theatre awards in Los Angeles, created to recognize excellence in theatrical performance, production, and design in the Greater Los Angeles area.

This year, the ceremony will be held at the Theatre at Ace Hotel on Monday, January 29, 2018. Tickets will go on sale Thursday, November 16, and full information can be found on OvationAwards.com.
