D.R. Wagner
Lecturer, Design

D.R. Wagner is a visual artist, poet and musician, and Lecturer in Design at the University of California at Davis. He has had over thirty solo exhibitions and has participated in well over one hundred group shows, many of them international exhibitions. He has published over twenty books of poetry and letters. He writes musical compositions and is currently recording a CD of original vocal music with his band, R. Spoon. He founded and directed for six years, the Open Ring Galleries, a not-for-profit corporation for the arts in Sacramento, CA. 

An interest in the variety and challenge of fiber work led to his current focus of miniature tapestries, which he has been producing for over thirty years. Numerous reviews and articles have been written about him and his art. His work has been included in many books and catalogs. Among his honors received are the Fibers West Award, and an award for Traditional Technique at the International Textile Competition, Kyoto ‘87, Kyoto, Japan. 

Over the past thirty years he has been special Consultant to the California Art Council in Technical Services, Director of the California State Art in Public Buildings Program for Office of the State Architect, Director of the Robert Else Gallery at CSUS, Consultant to the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission on Technical Services for Arts Organizations, Director of the State of California Housing and Community Development Art Gallery, Director of Weinstock’s Art Gallery, Artist in Residence: State of Nevada, Panelist: Nevada State Council on the Arts and Idaho State Art Commission. He has lectured and/or given workshops at over twenty Universities and taught at most of the prominent Schools of Arts and Crafts. He also often works as an artist-in-residence for the California Arts1 Council at Sacramento area elementary schools.
