Jesse Genepi’s paintings are constructed utilizing a curated
digital archive of images influenced by fantasy, science fiction,
astrology, esoterica and queer aesthetics. Working within a
collage tradition with roots in the cut up technique – Images are
obliterated using editing software to be later reanimated and
layered together into the physical world as densely layered
paintings. This syncretic reanimation process plays into the
thought of artist-as-alchemist and incorporates a variety of
materials such as oil paint, acrylic polymer, crushed quartz,
collage, glass, glitter, and iridescent pigments; with the
intention of generating an encoded visual lore to be decrypted by
the viewer.
JAYJAY in Sacramento
will present a virtual exhibition of works by the first-year
MFAs entitled ”ENDNOTES.” The show, which will begin
May 27, will unfold with a series of instagram posts
that will take place every other day featuring Havilah Aos,
Valerie Arcara, Jesse Aylsworth, Dino
Capaldi, Genevra Daley, Mercy Hawkins, Gretchen
Lemaistre, and Dani Torvik.
