Giving Up/Giving It Up
The Other Show

Arena Theatre

The Department of Theatre and Dance presents two MFA projects in one performance. “Giving Up/Giving It Up” is created and performed by Kevin Dockery and “The OTHER Show” is created and performed by Slater Penney. Dockery and Penny are graduate students.

Their works will be performed 9-12 at 7 p.m. in Wright Hall’s Arena Theatre. Admission is by donation, suggested $5.

“How do children’s games train us to believe in a life that, as it turns out, may not be the life we want for ourselves?” said Dockery of his work. “And how is our sense of identity raised, fostered, created, defined, solidified, deplored, elevated, loved, hated, worshiped, and despised until we are made to choose one thing to be from a very short list? I am exploring in this work the way that we are not only socially enmeshed and enmeshed together in this moment but that we are enmeshed across the myriad parameters of existence. I am never just me.”

Come and play in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch with The OTHER Show, a new immersive theatrical event by Slater Penney. Explore and interact with the vast and mysterious beings deep in the depths of this world. This show is for all ages, and you get to decide the scale of your involvement in creating the environment you find yourself in.
