Auditions for “Comedy of Errors”
Feb. 26
DRA 122B Shakespeare on a Shoestring (SOS) CRN 83997
This year’s (SOS) will be Comedy of Errors (COE), one of Shakespeare’s earliest plays, a hilarious setup of identity confusion. Two sets of twins are separated as children, then come unexpectedly reunited in the same location several years later. The source of many other identity confusion plays over the following 400 years, it is filled with misunderstandings, jokes, puns, physical theatre, and slapstick. This production will also explore English/Spanish mistranslations!
Auditions are in the Arena Theatre, Wright Hall at 7 p.m. Wednesday February 26th.
Please come prepared with a Shakespearean monologue. Everybody will be in room working/auditioning together. Regina Gutierrez and Peter Lichtenfels will be co-directing together. We will cast a company for the production. This also embraces the likelihood that roles are not gender specific to the actor. COE will develop as a collaboration.
SOS counts as a 4 unit acting class for which you will need to sign up if cast. We rehearse T/W/Tr evenings, F morning, and Saturday afternoon. There are four performances in the Arena Theatre towards the end of quarter
The production will be Peter Lichtenfels’ final show for the Department, so come and learn from an internationally acclaimed Shakespeare director, and take up the opportunity to get your tongue around Shakespeare verse speaking.
Regina Gutierrez is a multi-disciplinary performing artist and theatre educator in the areas of movement, physical theatre, and acting, who has extensive professional experience as an actor, director, and producer.
