Video Audition Submissions for “Clouds from a Crumbling Giant”

In accordance with UC Davis campus protocol, Shinichi Iova-Koga, the winter 2022 Granada Artist-in-Residence, is accepting video auditions for his collaborative project Clouds from a Crumbling Giant now through Jan. 14 at 5 p.m. 

For auditions, please make three videos of yourself:

1. Provided text. Please speak the audition text (see below) 3 times. First time, neutral. Second time, with varying length of pauses between words. Third time, very fast.

2. Perform 1 minute of something that you’re good at or enjoy to do. A dance, a song, playing an instrument, juggling…

3. Improvise for 1 minute with a broom, or a broom stick or a branch. The improvisation is very open. Please follow your aesthetic or sensibility.

Please fill out the online audition form in advance as much as possible. Fill out as much information as possible about your schedule, including your academic and work schedules, being mindful of any activity or duty they may have during the typical hours of rehearsal (M-F 6-10pm; Sat 10-4pm with 1/2 hour lunch Sunday off).  

Please label your videos with your name and along with the completed audition form, put everything in the Box file that is linked above. 

AUDITION TEXT: “There is a beginning. There is a not yet beginning to be a beginning. There is a not yet beginning to be a not yet beginning to be a beginning. There is being. There is nonbeing. There is a not yet beginning to be nonbeing. There is a not yet beginning to be a not yet beginning to be nonbeing. Suddenly there is nonbeing.”

The project will incorporate dancers, actors and musicians. 

The piece will be performed on the mainstage at Wright Hall in early March.
