Outside the Lines 2

This is the second event of a three-part dance series that brings the audience into the performance process. The unique formatting of this show provides the viewer an opportunity to see works in various stages of conception and development. Follow the evolution of an artist over the course of the year or watch new choreographers put their work on display; there will be new choreography from the students featured in the last series, as well as new students presenting dance works.

Outside the Lines 2 will feature guest artists from Zaccho Dance Theatre and its artistic director Joanna Haigood. The company will perform one of Zaccho’s signature works Dying While Black and Brown, a stirring work examining incarcerated men on death row. With choreography and direction by Haigood, the work features music by Marcus Shelby and performers Antoine Hunter, Travis Santell Rowland, Rashad Pridgen and Matthew Wickett.

“The piece Dying While Black and Brown impacted me in a very profound way, said Anthony Graves, a former death row inmate now a Texas public defender. “It took me back to a place emotionally that allowed me to reconnect with the tragedy of the past 18 years of my life, and then it also reminded me of the triumph of winning back my freedom.”

In conjunction with Dying While Black and Brown, there will be commentary by various guest speakers throughout the run.

The performance also showcases developing works by students and David Grenke, chair Department of Theatre and Dance.

Adults: $10, Faculty/Staff: $9, Students/Seniors: $7
