Design Students Create Public Mural in Davis
Students in DES 155A taught by alum Alicia Decker, MFA 2018, collaborated with with the John Natsoulas Gallery and the Davis Mural Team to bring their design to life in the form of a public community mural.
The class worked over several weeks to ideate, pitch, iterate and complete a visually-compelling design that was both relevant to the course content, as well as to the Davis community. In the class, students formed a design agency where they broke down into cross functional teams to tackle different aspects of the design.
This was a huge learning process that gave the students real-life agency experience as well as public-art making experience. They pitched their designs (through 3 iterations) to receive approval and met several deadlines along the way.
The mural was painted as a collaborative effort among all the students and members of the John Natsoulas Gallery on Sunday, June 2, and was a big success. The mural is located at 3rd and C Streets, across from Burgers and Brew and catty-corner from the farmers market.
