Major: History, Theory, and Ethnomusicology Track

Overview

History, Theory,
and Ethnomusicology Track

The track in history, theory, and ethnomusicology involves extensive work in analyzing the interplay between composers, musicians, patrons, and cultural influences or historical events as they relate to the development of a particular musical style, genre, or idea.

Track Description

At the end of the track, students should be able to synthesize a piece of research into a sound thesis. Students who choose a track in history often continue their studies at a graduate level in the field of musicology. Those who wish to pursue particularly intensive studies in history should elect to take the honors track in place of the regular track. Students wishing to focus on ethnomusicology within the history, theory, and ethnomusicology track should consult their adviser as well as a member of the ethnomusicology faculty.
