PROFESSOR / ALAN TEMPLETON ENDOWED CHAIR IN THE HISTORY OF EUROPEAN ART 1600-1830

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Alan Templeton Endowed Chair in the History of European Art 1600 – 1830. Associate or Full Professor.

The Department of Art and Art History at the University of California, Davis, invites applications for a newly endowed senior faculty position. Research specialization must be within the history of European Art, 1600 – 1830. The appointment will be at the level of Associate Professor or Full Professor.

We seek a scholar whose work emphasizes methodological innovation as well as connections within Europe and beyond. In addition to a significant record of scholarly achievement, strong commitments to teaching and mentoring are required. Candidates must have demonstrable ability to teach introductory survey courses, upper-level courses for the Art History curriculum, and seminars suited to both advanced undergraduates and graduate students. A record of departmental, professional and community service is also desirable, since the Templeton Professor is expected to assume a leading role in shaping the study of visual arts at the University of California, Davis.

We especially welcome candidates whose experience in teaching, research, or service has prepared them to contribute to the University of California’s commitment to diversity and excellence.

Candidates are asked to submit required materials on-line at RECRUIT, https://recruit.ucdavis.edu/JPF03235. Required materials include: a letter of interest; curriculum vitae including past and current teaching; one sample publication; names and contact information for four referees; an authorization to release information form; a Statement of Contributions to Diversity that highlights past efforts to encourage diversity, which may include description of previous activities mentoring women, minorities, students with disabilities, or other under-represented groups, and proven past commitment to improving access to higher education for disadvantaged students.

The University of California is committed to creating and maintaining a community dedicated to the advancement, application, and transmission of knowledge and creative endeavors through academic excellence, where all individuals who participate in University programs and activities can work and learn together in a safe and secure environment, free of violence, harassment, discrimination, exploitation, or intimidation. With this commitment, UC Davis conducts a reference check on all finalists for tenured positions. The reference check involves contacting the administration of the applicant’s previous institution(s) to ask whether there have been substantiated findings of misconduct that would violate the University’s Faculty Code of Conduct. To implement this process, UC Davis requires all applicants for any open search for assistant/associate/full professor to complete, sign, and upload the form entitled “Authorization to Release Information” into RECRUIT as part of their application. If an applicant does not include the signed authorization with the application materials, the application will be considered incomplete, and as with any incomplete application, will not receive further consideration. Although all applicants for faculty recruitments must complete the entire application, only finalists considered for positions with tenure or security of employment will be subject to reference checks.

UC Davis is an affirmative action/equal employment opportunity employer and is dedicated to recruiting a diverse faculty community. We welcome all qualified applicants, including women, minorities, individuals with disabilities, and veterans.

For more information, contact the chair of the search committee: Professor Heghnar Watenpaugh (hwatenpaugh@ucdavis.edu).

Application deadline: December 9, 2019. Position will remain open until filled.
