Elizabeth Kaino Hopper designs with textiles to address the world’s view of disabilities. She pioneered the application of Universal and Inclusive Design Theories to runway fashions that unify function with form. She blends able and disabled models into her runway shows thus challenging fashion’s view of female beauty. Kaino works solo in her Carmichael studio on new designs and custom orders, continuing to show her work and write for publications internationally.

Siqi Li just found a new job in Palo Alto. She’s going to work for the Android creator, Andy Rubin, and his team in the Playground Global Studio, with many other amazing designers and engineers. With a title of UI/Visual Conceptual Designer, she’ll work for a wide range of smart hardware projects.

Design alumna Charlotte Semmes is working toward her teaching credential to teach Art and Design at the high school level. At the moment she is completing her student teaching at George Washington Carver School of Arts and Sciences, a Waldorf-themed charter high school with an environmental and social justice pathway. Charlotte adds, “When I’m not at the high school or Sac State (which is 80% of my time) I’m at my sewing machine working on projects.”
Design alumna Carol Shu works for The North Face’s sustainability team and is also a part-time student at Presidio Graduate School in San Francisco. At The North Face she supports the sustainability director and manager on projects such as implementing responsible down sourcing and tracking the company’s progress toward their product sustainability goals. At Presidio Graduate School she is pursuing an MBA in Sustainable Management; fellow Design alumna Christina Johnson (2010) is a classmate!

Mahan’s thesis topic for his MFA in Design at UC Davis concerns how to exhibit architecture in a meaningful and effective way using augmented reality technology. He is also the Architectural manager in solar decathlon.

Emma Thorne-Christy received her MFA in Design with an emphasis in exhibition design. Her graduate research focused on the development and design process of exhibiting controversial material in the museum, and museums as advocates for civil and human rights.
