This course will be an opportunity to explore contemporary ideas and tools for applying the performing arts in educational and community contexts, as a catalyst for intellectual, social, physical and emotional learning. Through a mixture of lectures, discussions, and workshops with a range of experienced practitioner/facilitators in Theatre, Dance and related fields, we will become familiar with relevant theories and practices. The identification and application of different models will develop students’ theoretical foundation for the critical analysis of techniques. Taking part in practical in-class activities will provide students the first-hand knowledge necessary to design original workshops, with well-articulated, context-specific educational aims. An emphasis on reflexive processes of documentation and peer evaluation will hone important skills to prepare students for the possibility of future work as teaching artists.
Open to UCD undergraduate and graduate students. All experience levels welcome.
