Margaret Laurena Kemp Honored by Voice and Speech Review
Margaret Laurena Kemp, associate professor of theatre and dance, has been presented with the Forum Article of the Year Award by the board of the journal Voice and Speech Review (VSR), the official publication of Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA). The award was given for Kemp’s article It Is All about Love. Listen to Me, Y’all. Yeah.
Originally published in VSR, Volume 14, 2020, Issue 1, Kemp’s article explores the performance training from the educators’ perspective. The author explores how to engage as a new generation of artists and teachers and reconsider pedagogies, then consider how to make work that stands within, beside and behind the historical approaches of training in order to create a dialogue.
VSR solicits articles and essays that focus on voice and speech topics and training, particularly for the performing arts. The VSR welcomes peer reviewed articles from a broad array of voice-oriented subjects. The journal also welcomes scholarly essays and interviews based on personal experience that are often practical notes from the field, as well as book and other resource reviews. The journal is published by Routledge, a division of the Taylor and Francis Group.
