Faculty and Alumni Work Featured in Wayne State University Gallery

Art Studio faculty and alumni are being showcased in “Acts and Sites” at Wayne State University in Detroit.

The exhibition has been co-curated by Richard Haley, MFA 2007, and his wife Mary Anderson, Performance Studies PhD 2009, and features work by Annabeth Rosen, professor of art, Robert Arneson, professor emeritus, Mollie Oblinger, MFA 2005, and Bruce Nauman, MFA 1966.

The exhibition is on view through March 22 at Wayne State’s Elaine L. Jacob Gallery.

“Acts and Sites” features work by Mike Kelley and David Ireland, and focuses on the Blackout series by Kelley and the Skellig works by Ireland. Both works take the form of a travelogue, documenting remote abandoned sites through photography. Each artist deviates from traditional forms of documentary images by weaving in forms of autobiography, malfunction, and fiction.

Haley has previously curated exhibitions at Wayne State that have included the work of faculty members Lucy Puls and Darrin Martin and alumni Terry Berlier, MFA 2003, and Stephen Kaltenbach, MFA 1967. He co-curated a two-day performance at the Detroit Institute of the Arts titled “Instrumental” in October 2017 featuring Lisa Cralle, MFA 2011.

This exhibition is made possible with the cooperation and support of the Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts, 500 Capp Street Foundation, Detroit Institute of Arts, UMMA: University of Michigan Museum of Art, and Anglim Gilbert Gallery. .

The James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History is a division of Wayne State’s College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts, educating the next generation of visual artists, designers and art historians.
