Do Not Obey: An Untitled Project Involving Bodies, Dirt & Space
Celebrate Mother’s Day at UC Davis by attending a truly unique performance experience. Audiences are invited to attend “Do Not Obey: an Untitled Project: Bodies, Dirt and Space,” a theatre piece in process by Visiting Professor Margaret Laurena Kemp and directed by PhD. Candidate Lisa Quoresimo.
The free performance is scheduled for Sunday, May 8 beginning at 2:45 p.m. at the grassy area east of the Carolee Shields Garden and Gazebo.
The entire group will perform along Putah Creek which flows through UC Davis in The Arboretum. The performance will create a space in which those watching the performance can break their silence and be heard.
The performance poses such questions as: Who are the seen and unseen authorities that you are obeying? What are the overt or subtle languages and actions that you have been trained to obey that are part of your everyday life? How does this social pressure and perception silence your language and confine your body?
This community engagement project is part of An Untitled Project: Bodies, Dirt and Space, a theatre piece in process which is presented in conjunction with the UC Davis Department of Theatre and Dance and the UC Davis Arboretum.
