Award-winning costume designer Kristine Doiel unwraps the
creative process about the design and construction of the corset.
Students will complete a basic corset from a commercial pattern. Instruction will include history of the corset, types of corset fabrics/findings and methods of embellishment . Skills learned can be applied to historical or contemporary corsets.
Completion of DES 77 or experience in basic garment construction is necessary for successful completion of this class..
Kristine Doiel (Costume Designer), a graduate of California Institute of the Arts, has designed/constructed costumes for 45 productions in California and Milwaukee. Design credits include Macbeth, Winter’s Tale, Annie, Cocoanuts, Die Fleidermaus, Two Gentlemen of Verona, Taming of the Shrew, My Fair Lady, and Fantasticks. Ms. Doiel has also worked for L.A. Opera as assistant costume director for La Boheme and Les Troyens, and at Long Beach Opera as costume director for Cavalleria Rusticana and La Navarraise. Awards include the Princess Grace Foundation Theater Grant and the Dramalogue Award for costume design for The Rivals at Ensemble Theater in Santa Barbara.
