Auditions for “Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps”

Department of Theatre and Dance will be holding open auditions for the award-winning comedy Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps on March 13 and 14 in the Wyatt Pavilion Theatre from 6 to 10 p.m. Call backs will be on March 15, 6-10 p.m. Auditions are open to all UC Davis students.

Sign up for an audition slot in the red audition binder in Art 101. Mon-Fri, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. When you sign up, pick up sides and prepare for your audition.

Actors should make bold choices and run with them. The show relies on bold choices, impeccable timing and full throttle physicality. All actors need to throw themselves diligently into roles and change DNA and dialects quickly.

Director Mindy Cooper said, “Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps mixes a Hitchcock film masterpiece with a juicy spy novel and adds a dash of Monty Python for an intriguing, thrilling, riotous and rapid fire comedy. The show hurtles a notorious fugitive and a spellbound blonde from a London music hall north by northwest to Scotland’s most remote highlands. Will they save Britain from a den of devious spies? A cast of four actors plays over 150 characters in this fast-paced tale of an ordinary man on an extraordinarily entertaining adventure.”

Performers of all ethnic and racial backgrounds encouraged to attend.

Must be available for evening (6-10 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m.-3 p.m.) rehearsals beginning April 3. Show opens May 11, closes May 20, and runs Thu-Sat evenings at 7 p.m. with 2 p.m. matinees on May 13 and 20.
