Student Spotlight: August 2015

Background

I am an undergraduate student pursuing a B.A. in Design and Communication at UC Davis with an emphasis in graphic design. I focus on brand identity development and marketing in the hopes of creating a better visual understanding of organizations and their vision and values. I am foremost a designer and photographer, but also an avid aquatic enthusiast and dedicated Odesza fan.

My ultimate goal as a designer is to work in branding and visual design. Like every designer, I am obsessed with the aesthetics in life. From a sleek logo to an Instagram picture, I enjoy the geometrics, the grayscale tones, the minimal functionality, and everything in between. The ability to use simple images and colors to communicate complex ideas and attitudes is an amazing feat, and I always love to bring in my personal style in creating identities and visual graphics for society.

Work

Over the summer, I worked as a graphic designer for a startup fitness and health company in San Francisco. I was able to experience and directly contribute to the rebranding process of the company, from logo creation to implementations of brand standards on the website and social media platforms. It was the most perfect fit that I could have imagined, and this taste of brand identity development has inspired me to continue pursuing branding design. Being a designer is about more than making graphics; it is about conveying ideas, creating communities, and making life all around more aesthetic and meaningful.
