New Work by Sam Nichols Performed in Bay Area Concerts
Violinist Anna Presler of the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble will be performing a new work by Sam Nichols at two locations in the Bay Area. In a concert titled Brahms Through the Looking Glass, Presler performs Nichols’ “in zwei farben for violin and electronics.” On Saturday, March 18, the Ensemble appears at the Berkeley Piano Club in Berkeley starting at 7:30 p.m. Then on Tuesday, March 21, they perform at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music at 7:30 p.m.
Brahms Through the Looking Glass is a concert inspired by and featuring Brahms’ B Major Piano Trio, scored for piano, cello, and violin in four movements. Brahms has been considered, by his contemporaries and by later writers, as both a traditionalist and an innovator. For this program, Brahms’ work serves as a starting point and an inspiration for a new generation of emerging composers.
