Design Students show work at Shrem Art Fair
March 5, 2014

Flexible Furniture
The Art Fair at the Groundbreaking for the Shrem Museum of Art included chairs made by Design Students

The groundbreaking for the new Shrem Museum of Art at UC Davis was held on Saturday, March 1, with over 500 members of the community in attendance. Exhibited at the event were chair designs by Department of Design students Hydie Pavick, Alexis Agoustari, Becky Gmahling, Jamie Chen and Carmen Romo, who developed their chair prototypes under the guidance of Professor Brett Snyder and Professor Tim McNeil.

The chairs are intended as furniture pieces for the future museum lobby. In the spirit of the museum architecture, the designs exemplify reconfigurability, contrast and a sense of making; all of them can be moved, flipped, manipulated and reconfigured.

Students in DES 50: Introduction to Three-dimensional Design and DES 191: Group Study: Furniture for a Museum of Art contributed their work.
