Anton Reijnders
Visiting Artist Lecture Series
For more than 34years Anton Reijnders has been active as a sculptor. Besides sculptures Reijnders makes installations and site specific works. He combines different materials, like wood, textile or found materials with ceramics. Through his work Reijnders wants to offer an alternative to images that are increasingly subservient to quick effects. He hopes his works create opportunities for reflection and concentration and will evokes awareness of the automatism in which we attribute meaning.
Anton Reijnders has contributed to the creation of what in 1991 was to become the European Ceramic Work Center (EKWC) in ’s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. As Head of Studios and Workshops he was involved in dialogue with artists from all over the world. He was the driving force behind setting up the material research programme and is author of the book ‘The Ceramic Process’ jointly with the EKWC published by A&C Black in London, and Pennsylvania Press in the USA.
His work will be shown at the 71st Scripps Ceramic Annual, Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery at Scripps College (Claremont, California) which will open Saturday January 24, 2015.
Currently he is teaching at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (BFA) and the Sandberg Institute (MFA) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands
