Ala Ebtekar
In Conversation with Susette Min
Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 12:10-1:30 pm in Wellman 229
Please join us in welcoming Ala Ebtekar, an artist and educator
who works between his native San Francisco Bay Area and Tehran,
Iran. Ebtekar will be in conversation with
Professor Susette Min about his multifaceted art practice of
painting, drawing, installation, text, photography, and
public projects over the past fifteen years, and what it
means
to make art in an age of uncertainty, amidst war, conflict, and
social injustices. The conversation will also focus on his
pedagogical initiatives including Art, Social Space and
Public Discourse, a three-year Stanford global initiative on art
and civic life, that promotes ongoing critical frameworks,
conversations, newly commissioned art projects, and
explorations of various cultural productions and intellectual
traditions.
Co-sponsored by ART HISTORY, ASIAN AMERICAN STUDIES DEPARTMENT, and the MIDDLE EAST/SOUTH ASIA STUDIES PROGRAM
