TEMPORARY LECTURER POSITION IN THE ART STUDIO PROGRAM – Winter 2019

The Department of Art and Art History at the University of California, Davis, invites applications for a lecturer position in the Art Studio Program to teach a class in CONTEMPORARY THEORY & CRITICISM, Art 149 Introduction to Critical Theory, during Winter quarter 2019 (January 2018 – March 2018). A lecturer teaches an 80-minute lecture class twice a week and holds regular office hours.

Conversation aims to foster innovative dialogue surrounding the conceptual nature of contemporary art practice for BA & MFA students who are interested in advancing their professional competencies in the visual arts through an understanding of contemporary artistic global issues both current and historical. The conceptual nature of contemporary art practices puts theoretical and critical investigations at the creative core of art making. Contemporary art history and theory support student’s material engagement in studio classes and include history in the arts arts-based disciplines for the discussion of social, political, cultural and economic issues in a constantly changing world.

Qualifications include an advanced degree and three years teaching experience at the university or college level.

This is a non-tenured, temporary position: the appointments to the title of Lecturer are self-terminating (no further notice on non-reappointment will be forthcoming) and do not create an obligation on the part of the University either to extend or renew the appointment outlined above. Any reappointment will be preceded by an assessment.

Proof of citizenship or eligibility for US employment required prior to employment (Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986).

This position is subject to UC policy and is covered by a collective bargaining unit.
