Ann Lavin plays the clarinet with a variety of chamber ensembles and orchestras.
She has performed with the San Francisco Opera, Ballet and Symphony; San Jose Opera; San Jose Chamber Ensemble; the orchestras of Oakland, Santa Rosa, Sacramento, Marin, Santa Cruz; the California Symphony; Symphony Silicon Valley and the Carmel Bach Festival. She has recorded video game music at the Skywalker Ranch and was part of the San Francisco Symphony’s Adventures in Music for two years–a musical outreach program providing free and educational chamber concerts in every San Francisco public school. Ann has played Principal Clarinet with the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theater for twelve summers and for five seasons played Principal Clarinet with the Sarasota Opera. She has performed at Tanglewood and has toured Russia, Japan, Hong Kong, Israel and spent two summers playing opera at the Spoleto Festival in Italy. She earned a Doctor of Musical Arts from Stony Brook University and also received degrees from Northwestern University and DePaul University. Her teachers were: Larry Combs (Principal Clarinet with the Chicago Symphony); Robert Marcellus (Principal Clarinet with Cleveland Orchestra under George Szell); Charles Neidich (renowned pedagogue, soloist and winner of the prestigious Naumburg Competition). In October of 2016, Ann will solo with bassoonist Douglas Brown in Strauss’ Duet Concertino with the San Jose Chamber Orchestra.
