Angela Willetts Featured in San Francisco Exhibition
Aug. 29 -- Sept. 17, 2017
Angela Willets (MFA, studio art, 2016) is one of three inaugural artists selected for R&D Projects, a research-intensive partnership for artists who recently completed graduate school. The project culminates in a solo at Embark Gallery in San Francisco.
Willets’ “I Am Maneuvering With Difficulty” at the Fort Mason gallery opens with a reception from 6 – 9 p.m. Aug. 25 and runs through Sept. 17. The exhibition is multi-media with videos, textiles, a book, objects from the videos and uses language borrowed from military manuals and maritime signals to talk about longing, protection and vulnerability. She worked with a National Parks historian to learn about Fort Mason, which was a U.S. Army port.
Willets collaborated with classmate and colleague Zach Clark (MFA, ’16) on a book for the exhibition, Relationships, published through Clark’s National Monument Press. Willets is a visitor services associate at the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at UC Davis.
