Two Improvisations

Ryan Enright, organ, is widely recognized for his talent at improvisation and as an accompanist and has performed recitals throughout Canada and the United States. Enright enjoys performing important works of the organ’s literature, from 1540 to the present day, attempting to approach each period of music in an informed and expressive manner.

Free, no tickets necessary (a Shinkoskey Noon Concert)

In California, he has performed at St. Mary’s Cathedral and Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Berkeley, and in Sacramento at All Saints Episcopal Church, St. John’s Lutheran Church, and Westminster Presbyterian Church. In the summer of 2014, Enright accompanied the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra on their 2014 tour of Italy (Venice, Lucca, and Rome). At St. Peter’s Basilica, Enright played solos at communion and for the postlude. Enright took first prizes at the Canadian Music Competition (1997), Quebec Organ Competition (2004), and National Organ Playing Competition of the Royal Canadian College of Organists (2007). He also competed in the Dublin International Organ Competition, Kotka Competition (Finland), and Canadian International Organ Competition, Montreal (2011), where he was one of sixteen international finalists and the only Canadian.

A native of Montreal, Québec, Enright received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees—and Artist Diploma—in organ performance from McGill University. There he studied from John Grew and William Porter. He received his DMA in organ performance from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied repertoire and improvisation with William Porter. Enright relocated to Sacramento in 2011 and is the organist of St. John’s Lutheran Church and accompanist for the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra, the Sacramento State University Chorus, and the Schola Cantorum of Sacred Heart Church. His passions away from the organ loft include hiking, Hatha yoga, swimming, cycling, and Argentine Tango.
