Inspiration is transformed into a creative spectacle at “Impression/Expression,” the 31^st Picnic Day Fashion Show at UC Davis.

Presented by the student-run Fashion and Design Society (FADS), the bold fashion-forward garments were created and executed by students in the UC Davis College of Letters and Science’s Department of Design’s Signatures Collection course, overseen by Adele Zhang, Joanne C. Stabb Design Collection curator and lecturer. 

“There are 20 designers this year who have created 19 collections,” said Zhang. “Two students, Pooja Morari and Sharon Zhu, collaborated for a wedding attire collection ‘Ina Fusion’ of six outfits inspired by traditional Indian and Chinese wedding dresses.”  

The collections will be showcased in runway shows Saturday, April 21, 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the Activities and Recreation Center (ARC) Ballroom. Tickets are $12 and may be purchased at the UC Davis Ticket Office, located on the north side of Aggie Stadium, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by phone (530) 752-2471 during the same hours.

Ann Savageau, professor emerita of design, attended a preview of this year’s collection and said, “Under the instruction of Zhang, fashion design students will be showing imaginative garments that could be modeled on any runway in New York or Paris.”
