“Listening to a Liberated Paris: Pierre Schaeffer Experiments with Radio” chronicles Schaeffer’s early career as an administrator and producer for French radio, revealing the medium’s crucial role in the conception and diffusion of his music.
Alexander Stalarow holds a master’s degree from the University of Toulouse and is a candidate for a PhD in musicology at UC Davis. In 2015, Stalarow returned to France as a Chateaubriand Fellow to continue his archival work in cooperation with the University of Lille. His research in Paris and at the Institut Mémoires de l’Édition Contemporaine (IMEC) in Normandy also has been supported by a HArCS Dean’s Fellowship, and he has been awarded a Bilinski Educational Fondation Fellowship for the 2015–16 school year. He is also a recipient of an American Musicological Society 50 dissertation completion award.
