JazzLab (Student Composers Ensemble)

The UC Davis JazzLab (Jazz Composers Ensemble) is the counterpart ensemble to the new UC Davis Jazz Composition, Theory & Arranging Course. The JazzLab meets every week for a student composers reading session, composition, and arranging workshop. Internationally renowned Jazz artist Dr. Jacám Manricks will perform with and direct the ensemble in an effort to provide an inspiring, creative, and learning environment for all composers and ensemble members involved. Topics that will be discussed include: ensemble playing, sight-reading, improvisation, composition and arranging, orchestration, and music theory. The UC Davis JazzLab will perform a concert and recording session each quarter. The ensemble welcomes all instrumentalists to apply.
