Documentary Filmmaking in Ireland
Summer Session One

Professors Glenda Drew and Jesse Drew will co-lead this program in Dublin, Belfast, Galway and Cork, Ireland. We will explore the concepts and practices of documentary media production focusing on the use of video and new media tools to illustrate social issues and promote international understanding. Students will utilize basic video, sound, lighting, and computer software as they develop a short documentary project on Ireland. Completed work will be exhibited publicly and hosted on a Documentary Ireland video website. Students will be required to keep a written journal of their experiences and to complete a collection of short essays.

Cinema and Digital Media 104 – Documentary Production (4 units)*

Lecture/discussion—3 hours; project. Traditional and new forms of documentary, with focus on technocultural issues. Skills and strategies for producing work in various media. Progression through all stages of production, from conception through post-production to critique. GE credit: VL.—Drew, Wyman
